HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK:
This has been another busy week. All VPK assessments are complete and I have a few more ELLM assessments to complete. I am going to cluster our letters. The rest of this month we will be focusing on the letters “B,C,T,L & S.” We have been working on letter recognition and the sound each letter makes. We also began a writing journal. This will be kept at school. We will work in our writing journals on Fridays. Some items that will go into their journal will include, writing out names, writing letters and numbers and drawing pictures. They will also begin to write stories.
The children are having fun with the share bag. Don’t worry if your child has not brought it home yet, it will be coming home shortly. Sharing the items they bring provides and excellent opportunity for oral language development. We talk about speaking clearly, and loud enough for our friends to hear. The questions that have come up have been wonderful!
COMING UP NEXT WEEK:
Next week is a short week. We will be talking about “ME.” Most of the children brought in their mini posters. If your child had not completed one, just send it in anytime. We will be doing all kinds of hands-on activities with our names. And we will read on of my favorite stories, Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes.
HOME LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:
I encourage families to extend the above activity by telling your child why you chose the name you did. If you are planning a trip to the library, check out some more Kevin Henkes books and enjoy them with your child.
DATES TO REMEMBER:
Please note that there will be no school on Monday or Tuesday, September 17th & 18th in observance of Rosh Hashanah.
Everyone is invited to attend the Preschool Family Service each day at 10 am.
