Monday was Tu B’Shvat, the birthday of the trees!!!! We had Jewish Studies outside.
We planted parsley seeds in a special planter- we hope it will sprout by Passover so that we can use it in our seder plates.
We celebrated by dancing around the trees…
And being tree-huggers… Literally!
We had a special snack of dried fruits.
And learned all about them.
We learned about, and colored, pictures of the “Shiv’at Ha’minim”- 7 special fruits and grains that are special to the land of Israel. They are: wheat, barley, grapes, figs, dates, pomegranates, olives.
We also traced and decorated pictures of gardening tools and talked about how trees are born.
PE was an interactive story that involved using our listening skills to perform the actions in the story. We acted like different animal doing different motions.
We learned about orcas this week. On Tuesday, Ms. Amanda showed us a movie about orcas in their natural habitat and talked with us all about them.
On Wednesday, we had a Skype session with the orcas and their trainers at Sea World. We heard the orcas speaking and saw parts of the orca that we could never have seen or learned this much about! We also got to ask the trainers questions and get answers about how orcas eat, drink, live and play. We were SO excited!
In Jewish Studies we learned about Daniel and the Lion. We reinforced how prayer and belief in God can help us in times of need.
We played outside in the courtyard with sports equipment instead of the playground when it was wet from the rain.
Our theme of the week was Feelings- they can also be called Moods or Emotions. We read about all different types of moods and then talked about the different names for each and pretended to feel that way with our faces.
In science with Ms. Amanda we did a taste test. We tried soy peanut butter and chocolate soy peanut butter. Then we voted on which we loved best. If you guessed chocolate, you would be correct!
We made our own Silly Sally faces with curly hair.
We had a special Mystery Reader- Ms. Irit, Noam’s mom!
This was a great week… It wasn’t the BEST week ever, because we had too many friends out sick. We wish them a refuah sheleima- a complete recovery and hope everyone is back on Monday!
On February 10th, we will celebrate our 100th Day of School. We ask that each child create a t-shirt that has 100 of something on it and wear it that day.
February 11th we will have a VPK field trip to the Hands On Children’s Museum. Please check your child’s folder or backpack for the permission slip for this trip as well our trip to Diamond D Ranch in March. Please return this permission slip with $30.00 payment no later than Friday, February 5th.
I will be sending home the ASQ for parents to complete on Monday, February 1st to be returned by Friday, February 5th.
There is NO SCHOOL on Monday February 15th in honor of President’s Day.
Looking forward to a week full of laughter and learning with ALL our friends!
