Holiday Season is Upon Us

This time of year is the best! We started our seasonal celebrations with Thanksgiving and continued on through to the joy that is Chanukah! We’ve been busy. In addition to all the songs and poems that we have been learning, we have continued to practice our writing skills, phonological awareness and sight words as we prepare to launch into our pre-reading once we return from Winter Break. We have also mastered our number recognition and are moving right along to addition and subtraction.

We’ve been busy!

We made Chanukiah’s out of so many different things!

We made candles in Science with Ms. Amanda.

First one of beeswax…

IMG_4903 IMG_4905 IMG_4906 IMG_4907 IMG_4908 IMG_4910

And then one of hot wax that started as a liquid and then cooled into a solid.IMG_4911 IMG_4915 IMG_4918 IMG_4922 IMG_4923 IMG_4926 IMG_4929 IMG_4930 IMG_4931 IMG_4932 IMG_4933

We sizzled like latkes…

And spun like dreidels!

IMG_4936 IMG_4937 IMG_4938 IMG_4939 IMG_4942

We made Chanukah cards…

IMG_4944 IMG_4946 IMG_4955 IMG_4961IMG_5004

We practiced making Jewish symbols… The Magen David, Sevivon and Menorah. IMG_5006 IMG_5007 IMG_5008 IMG_5011 IMG_5013 IMG_5016 IMG_5021 IMG_5022 IMG_5023 IMG_5025 IMG_5026  IMG_5033

We hosted our own Chanukah.

IMG_5051 IMG_5053 IMG_5054 IMG_5055 IMG_5056 IMG_5057 IMG_5058

We learned the rules of the Dreidel game.

We used our fine motor skills to color, cut and match up triangles on a Jewish Star craft.

IMG_5060 IMG_5061 IMG_5063 IMG_5064 IMG_5065

We used a Chanukia craft to practice counting, adding and subtracting.

IMG_5066 IMG_5067 IMG_5068 IMG_5069 IMG_5070 IMG_5071IMG_5076

We had a special guest come read to us- Ms. Whitney from PJ Library.IMG_5074 IMG_5075

In Science, we learned that liquid has different weights- just like solids when we did sink and float! We combined honey, dish soap, water, oil and alcohol to see what would happen. IMG_5077

We had a special Mystery Reader- Noam’s Ema, Ms. Irit!! She read us a Chanukah story and taught us a dreidel song!
