Welcome Tzeeporim Families – Let’s Stay Connected!

Welcome to DuBow Preschool’s Tzeeporim 1 Classroom Blog!

There are many ways that you can stay connected to your child(ren)’s class.
This blog will be updated periodically with classroom info. It’s a great place to find out about some of the activities and programming that we offer. Your teachers may also send periodic emails with classroom info as well.

The DuBow Preschool and Martin J. Gottlieb Day School also send out a weekly email to keep everyone updated with school happenings. You can see an example of this email HERE.  If you are not receiving these emails, please email amanda.watsky@mjgds.org for additional assistance.

If you enjoy social media, you can follow the DuBow Preschool on Facebook or Instagram for quick photos and information.

Let’s have an amazing year!

Chicka Chicka Letters and Numbers

This week we read Chicka Chicka 1,2,3 and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We discussed what is the same and different in both books. We took the opportunity to begin counting by 10s to 100 just like the book.

We also practiced writing all the letters in the alphabet.

We are using our fine motor skills to cut, paste, and match numbers to pictures.

img_3974 img_3977 img_3979

Our letter of the week was “Z”. We talked about different words that begin with “Z” and practiced writing the letter.

img_3983 img_3984 img_3985 img_3986 img_3987 img_3988 img_3989 img_3990 img_3991 img_4001

In Jewish Studies, and in our class, we began learning about Chanukah- the symbols, history, customs, and traditions. We have begun making our Chanukah crafts… Stay tuned to find out what this dot paint art will turn into!

img_4019 img_4020

We learned how to play Dreidel which is an excellent opportunity to use our addition and subtraction skills.

img_4030 img_4024  img_4032 img_4052

We had a surprise visit from Milly’s mom who stayed as our guest Mystery Reader!

img_4056 img_4057

Our Ema and Aba Shabbat- Lily Pop and Jordan- helped us enjoy the wonderful All School Shabbat celebration!

Next week our class will be rehearsing for our Chanukah Program which we will perform for you, as well as for the residents of River Garden Hebrew Home. We will be learning more about the Festival of Lights and will use our fine and gross motor, math and phonics skills, creativity, and imagination to celebrate and embrace this miraculous time of year!

Please complete and return the permission slips for River Garden as well as the Driver forms (if you are available to drive) by Friday, December 9th.

Rainbows, Voting, and Turkeys- oh my!

Shalom all!

First, a few reminders:

The weather is changing! We have enjoyed discussing this as we learn about weather. This also means that it is getting colder outside. Please be sure to send your child dressed appropriately since we will be going outside for recess each day unless the weather drops to 50 degrees or below or it is raining. We ask that you be sure to send a sweatshirt or jacket in.

Also, we ask that you refer to our school sickness policy. If your child has a fever, rash with open sores, diarrhea, or vomiting, they may not come to school. Please wait for 24 hours symptom free before returning to school.

The appropriate shoes for a preschool child is closed toe and non-slip. Children who bring shoes to change into are missing part of recess at the beginning and part of class time at the end. Sneakers are preferred because we encourage gross motor development and outdoor activities.

Now- on to the fun stuff!

I have just been made aware that due to technical difficulties, the previous blog about the exciting adventures including rainbows, light, Noah, and the Petting Zoo that visited did not publish properly. It is too good to miss, so I will be including it in this blog to ensure that you enjoy all that we have experienced.

Ms. Melissa is the science experiment guru in our class. She used a mirror, a glass of water, and sunlight to show us how rainbows can be created.

img_3127 img_3128 img_3129

In science, Ms. Amanda taught us about how shadows are created and we made puppet shows in shadow boxes.

img_3134 img_3135 img_3136 img_3137

We also got to play with the light table and created pictures with sand and our imagination.

img_3341 img_3342 img_3343 img_3344 img_3345 img_3346

We read the book Mouse Paint and talked about colors. The primary colors- red, yellow, blue- and the secondary colors that they create when combined- orange, green, and purple!

img_3206img_3138  img_3142 img_3150 img_3159

We used our paint bags to practice writing letters and numbers. img_3337

We are still working on our letter recognition and phonological awareness by matching the sounds in words.

img_3207  img_3211 img_3212 img_3213

Ms. Melissa helps us to recharge our brains to think the best we can! We listen to and follow the instructions she gives.

Hanah’s mom was a mystery reader the week that Hannah was the Ema and Max was the Aba for Shabbat.img_3214 img_3222 img_3228

While talking about rainbows… we tied in the story of Noah and the ark. We reinforced the story with our Noah and the animals matching game…

… And built our own Ark for snack!

We read the book, “Duck for President” on election day. We learned about voting. We voted for snack, for the next activity, and what we would do in small group. We talked about how everyone got to pick their choice, although not every choice would win. In the end, we love and respect each other no matter which snack or activity won by getting the MOST votes.

In preparation for Thanksgiving, we had a visit from the petting zoo and their star turkey, Big Red.

We saw all sorts of animals.

img_3362 img_3363 img_3364 img_3366 img_3371 img_3372 img_3373 img_3374 img_3376 img_3377 img_3380 img_3381

We also got to spend one on one time with Big Red.

img_3382 img_3383 img_3384 img_3385 img_3386 img_3387 img_3388 img_3389 img_3391

We observed Veterans Day and stood at attention for a full minute after reciting our daily Pledge of Allegiance. We made Thanksgiving cards and pictures for veterans and our older friends at the day school distributed them to area veterans. We all did a mitzvah!

Lily Pop’s mom was a mystery reader.

img_3457 img_3460

And Rafa and Emma were Aba and Ema Shabbat!

We have been making crafts and learning about Thanksgiving.

img_3638img_3440 img_3640 img_3641 img_3642

We continue to practice our emergent writing by dictating for our journals and drawing the corresponding pictures.

We practice our names…

And our numbers.

We rehearsed for our Thanksgiving program in the sanctuary

We read books with a Thanksgiving theme all week long.

img_3650 img_3651

Dillon’s mom was a mystery reader.

And Milly and Zachary were our Ema and Aba Shabbat!

These have been the best weeks EVER… Until next week!

Sukkah Hopping and Torah Dancing- Now Back To Our Regularly Scheduled Programming

Welcome to our sukkah hopping, Torah dancing experience!!

But first… Let’s do some housekeeping.

Allergy and bug season seems to be in full swing. On the plus side, we took this opportunity to learn about the garden, plants, and animals that thrive on these bugs. Did you know that bats eat mosquitoes? Yay! We love bees- they pollinate our amazing plants and flowers. Have you visited our garden?

On the flip side, the bugs seem to be of the pesky kind that make us itch! If you would like us to spray your child- over their clothing- please let me know and I will send home our medication permission form. Please return it with bug spray labeled in a ziploc with your child’s name.

Last week, we sent home your child’s photos that were taken by Larry Tallis. Follow the instruction letter to place an order.

Also, the Parent-Teacher conference forms were sent home. If you have not yet returned yours, please do as soon as possible. Thanks!

Now on to the good stuff!
We came back from our days off for Sukkot and fulfilled the mitzvah of eating in the Sukkah when we went to visit the beautiful Sukkah at Eitz Chaim.

img_2116 img_2117 img_2118 img_2119 img_2126 img_2125 img_2124 img_2120 img_2128 img_2423 img_2426 img_2427 img_2437

We left a thank you note for our friends next door after our snack and story.

img_2440 img_2439

Then returned to visit our school Sukkah where we saw, felt, and smelled the lulav and etrog….

img_2443 img_2450

We also visited the sukkah Ms. Amanda made just for us in our school garden.img_2459

When we finally got back to our class it was time for each of us to put up our Mitzvah Stars!

img_2460 img_2462 img_2463 img_2464 img_2465 img_2467 img_2470

Our project of the week was to prepare for Simchat Torah. We each made- and wrote- My Torah.

img_2417 img_2420 img_2469

And then for Shabbat, we danced and celebrated with our Torah.

Now, getting back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Remember our Science experiment from last week- with the Pumpkins? Well, we got to see how it ended?

img_2489 img_2484 img_2485 img_2486 img_2488 img_2493

We worked on our patterns this week as well.

img_2476 img_2478 img_2479 img_2480 img_2494 img_2497

We got so good that we created our own patterns.

img_2498 img_2499 img_2500 img_2501 img_2502 img_2477 img_2503 img_2504

Our theme of the week was weather and rain. We read our ELLM book, We Play On a Rainy Day.

Ms. Melissa did an experiment that showed the water cycle. She used shaving cream and food coloring to demonstrate what happens when the clouds get full and the precipitation comes down.

img_2967 img_2946

Then we created rain theme watercolors!

img_2949 img_2947

We wrote in our journals and drew corresponding pictures, and then shared what we wrote about.

“My favorite thing about the rain is…”

This week in Jewish Studies we talked about the Torah starting again from “Bereishit”, in the beginning.

img_2945 img_2943

We took the time to go through day by day.

img_2952 img_2979 img_2966 img_2963 img_2954 img_2956

We displayed our work outside our classroom.

img_3006 img_3007 img_3008 img_3009 img_3010 img_3011 img_3012 img_3014 img_3013 img_3015 img_3016

At Shabbat, our Ema and Aba, Lily Pop and Dillon, led us into the celebration where we practiced miming the story of Creation.

img_3001 img_2995

Thank you to Jordan’s mom for being our mystery reader- she was so fun to listen to!
